Len Gilbert
Director, Technical Communications
My team is fantastic! Our passion is delivering user-focused technical information in formats that are appropriate to the material and audience. The team works on our product user interface design, usability, the inovis.com website, our SharePoint-based intranet, and all the Inovis product documentation. We write, design, and produce information critical to the success of our customers and fellow employees and love doing it.
I began working with computers in high school, writing BASIC code on a Commodore PET, then a C64 and began college as a computer science major. I switched my major to English and the two disciplines have served me well. After college, I managed an independent record store for a couple of years and was also a music buyer for a now-defunct chainstore. (High Fidelity wasn't far off; ask me about my top 5 HTML coding songs!) I then "got serious" and started working for a computer book publisher in the San Francisco Bay Area. My first job was typesetting, eventually managing the page layout and typesetting department. As I learned more about software, I began writing consumer-oriented software books, and moved professionally into technical writing for a couple of software companies where I also began working on intranets and websites "for fun". After co-writing a book about intranets, I have focused on online communication and information delivery. I am particularly interested in web analytics, usability, and social media. I also have been trying to learn a little Gaelic and Old English on the side....
