Companies of all shapes and sizes from all areas of the world send EDI documents daily to their trading partners. Before these documents can be sent, they need to be converted from their back-end Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution to an EDI standard document. This process is called data translation. Data translation involves mapping a document, such as a purchase order, coming out of an accounting system of company A into a standard EDI document (an 850 in this case). That 850 is sent via a connectivity solution to Company B. Company B uses their EDI software to translate the 850 and map it to their own ERP. The process is reversed when sending an invoice from Company B to Company A.
Translation is usually offered in various ways. Internet EDI Solutions, sometimes called EDI-INT, easily replaces cumbersome, paper-based methods for trading documents. These types of solutions usually incorporate both the translation and connectivity aspects of B2B communication. An example of a simple, cost-effective online solution is our Inovis Webware solution.
Software solutions can either be simple, easy to use Windows based solutions or more robust solutions for companies that exchange many documents daily. TrustedLink Windows, for instance, was designed specifically for the Microsoft Windows platform to help small to medium businesses work with their trading partners. BizManager with Transformation is a module offered within our BizManager communication solution, offering any-to-any translation services. TrustedLink System i and TrustedLink Enterprise are designed specifically for high-volume EDI customers.
Some companies elect to completely outsource their B2B communications, to include translation and connectivity. Inovis Managed Services is just that—we take our experienced team of specialists using best-in-class methodologies and combine it with Inovis' state-of-the-art network and hosting infrastructure.
