QRS and UCCnet Partner for Item Registry and Data Synchronization
RICHMOND, Calif.
– December 04, 2002 – QRS Corporation (Nasdaq: QRSI) today announced an agreement with UCCnet to join its "Partners In Sync" program as a preferred partner. The agreement with UCCnet brings together QRS Catalogue™, the retail industry's most extensive source of product information, and UCCnet's GLOBALregistry™.
Through this agreement, QRS Catalogue will undergo certification to support global item and location registry standards, allowing QRS to upload core item attributes to the UCCnet GLOBALregistry on behalf of suppliers. Retailers and distributors that are UCCnet subscribers will then be able to use the GLOBALregistry to locate thousands of suppliers and their products contained in QRS Catalogue.
QRS Catalogue allows manufacturers and suppliers to synchronize current, accurate product information on more than 90 million items with retailers in North America and Europe. Companies in more than 21 vertical markets – including apparel, footwear, consumer packaged goods, food, health and beauty, hardware and appliances, media and other retail segments – use QRS Catalogue to automate business processes, reduce costs and errors and improve cycle times.
Through the QRS/UCCnet alliance, manufacturers and suppliers that use QRS Catalogue to collaborate directly with all their trading partners can now also make the location of their product data available through UCCnet's GLOBALregistry, if they choose to be UCCnet subscribers, without any additional investment in technology or labor. UCCnet GLOBALregistry contains product and partner information and also functions as a directory for the location of product information. Once global industry standards for data pools are defined and QRS supports these future requirements, retail members will be able to locate product items in the QRS Catalogue and other UCCnet-certified commercial catalogues.
"Consistent with QRS' established leadership in driving and supporting industry standards, our alliance with UCCnet will ensure support for global standards as they emerge in other industry segments," said Joyce Kim, senior vice president of marketing for QRS Corporation. "At the same time, QRS can help UCCnet retailers achieve total electronic communication with suppliers of any size or technology preference through our rapid and extensive on-boarding capabilities."
QRS supports the Internet communications protocol AS2 for UCCnet-compliant communications. Through QRS Exchange™ solutions, QRS enables companies of any size or technology platform – phone or fax, electronic data interchange (EDI) or extensible markup language (XML), value added network (VAN) or Internet – to collaborate electronically with their retail business partners.
QRS Catalogue supports all standards governed by the Uniform Code Council, Inc. (UCC) and EAN International. QRS supports the Global Commerce Initiative (GCI) and its development of the Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN). Additionally, QRS Catalogue utilizes the EAN.UCC Global Standards Management Process (GSMP) to support data synchronization; it also complies with UCC/VICS trade item identification and communication guidelines, and supports the ANSI X12 and EDIFACT standards.
