IBM Selects Inovis to Provide Value-Added-Network Service for Sainsbury's
Guildeford, UK — 9 April 2009 — Inovisworks VAN has been selected to be part of a larger managed services project led by IBM (NYSE: IBM) that will transform Sainsbury's' B2B transactional systems. This overall project will help Sainsbury's reduce costs, provide better supply chain visibility and support future collaborative initiatives with suppliers.
"To support our continued growth, we were looking to enhance our collaboration with our suppliers without significant increase in cost. Having reviewed the market, we concluded that we needed to move to a highly resilient, responsive and flexible platform to improve our overall supply chain performance," said Tim Goalen, Sainsbury's. "We had a thorough understanding of the solution and services we required, and after a detailed review of the market, the IBM solution complete with Inovisworks stood out as the clear leader."
The overall solution, which includes the Inovisworks VAN, will provide a strong platform to help Sainsbury's and its approximately 4,000 suppliers find smarter ways of managing overall supply chain performance to support the continued growth of its business. The solution will allow for information flows to be streamlined, providing greater visibility of real-time supply chain performance.
"Sainsbury's has a dynamic vision of how it wants to work with suppliers in the future. Ensuring that the retailer has the right transactional platform is a critical element of building this vision," explained Justin Suter, Retail Supply Chain Leader, IBM Global Business Services. "Helping enterprises collaborate together in smarter ways is a focus for IBM, and partnering with Inovis was a key element of this solution; hundreds of Sainsbury's suppliers were already using Inovisworks, so there was minimal disruption required in terms of getting the VAN up and running, which fit in with Sainsbury's expectations of service."
Inovisworks is one of the largest, most reliable VANs in the world with 99.995% service levels. Inovisworks enables retailers, manufacturers and suppliers to do business electronically and exchange millions of purchase orders, invoices and other transactions regardless of network connectivity standards or data formats (eg. EDI, XML, RosettaNet, and EDI-INT).
"Supplier communication is the critical foundation of any B2B transaction platform. At Inovis, we're committed to streamlining this communication to help make operations more efficient and processes smarter," said John Redfern, Managing Director of Inovis in Europe. "With the deployment of Inovisworks, Sainsbury's is able to offer a full range of communication methods to its suppliers without impacting the current trading community due to the system's flexibility and the sheer number of suppliers who were already using Inovisworks. In the end, it is this smooth collaboration which will enhance the experience that Sainsbury's customers receive from the retailer."
